Sunglasses Trends 2027

Every year, sunglasses trends start in two places: the runways and the big eyewear fairs, Silmo in Paris and MIDO in Milan. For 2027 the picture is quite varied: sporty shields next to small ovals, warm aviators next to clear acetate. 1. Shields and sporty sunglasses

The clearest message from the spring/summer 2027 runways. As Wallpaper reports, sportswear-inspired sunglasses were everywhere: Givenchy, Rick Owens, Balenciaga, Balmain, Courrèges and Miu Miu all showed sporty, streamlined styles.

A shield has one single lens that wraps around the face, often mirrored or in a strong colour. It is no longer just for running or cycling: it works with a plain white T-shirt in the city too.

2. Aviators in warm, soft colours

At Silmo Paris 2026, aviators and navigators drew a lot of attention, as Vision Monday notes. Next to the classic thin metal aviator there is a softer version: an acetate frame, fuller, in gentle colours, with amber or orange lenses.

It is a shape that suits many faces, because the straight top line opens up the eyes.

3. Small ovals and soft cat-eyes

At the other end from the big frames, small, elongated shapes are back. WWD highlighted the return of cat-eye shapes and smaller, elongated designs at Silmo, and one of the fair's themes was a return to '90s glamour.

An oval gives a clean, slightly retro look and softens faces with strong angles. A cat-eye, with its upswept corners, lifts the eye.

4. Tortoiseshell and acetate with character

Acetates with pattern, depth and volume were one of Silmo's four trends, according to Vision Monday. MIDO, in its forecast for summer 2027, also talks about marbled acetates and warm, spice-toned palettes.

Tortoiseshell is the most wearable form of this trend: it goes with everything and looks warmer and softer than black.

5. Milky clear frames and gold metal

Two of the four trends MIDO forecasts for summer 2027 go well together. "Summer Residence" is about light, almost weightless shapes and milky acetates, with understated luxury. "Primal Relics" brings gold-toned metal.

A clear frame lets the light through and looks lighter on the face. Gold metal adds shine without weighing the look down.

6. Oversized, in proportion

Big sunglasses have not gone away. At Silmo's Trend Forum, frames with "generous, exaggerated proportions" were the dominant look, as Vision Monday writes.

For everyday wear, a big but well-balanced frame is easier to wear than an extreme design. Look for one that covers the eyebrows and doesn't rest on the cheeks.
